Green Power Programs

Holy Cross rated as one of greenest utility companies

Two co-ops, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, in Bismark, North Dakota, and Holy Cross Energy, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, have earned places on the Top Ten lists of utility green power programs. The list was compiled by an Energy Department lab.

Holy Cross Energy placed ninth in customer participation rate, with 5.2 percent of its consumer-members participating in its two green power programs, Wind Power Pioneers and Local Renewable Energy Pool. Wind Power Pioneers offers electricity from a Colorado wind farm, while the Local Renewable Energy Pool features power generated by small-scale hydro installations within the co-op’s service territory.

The co-op makes it easy for its customers to think green. “By participating in our green power programs, consumer-members have the option of stepping up and doing more about greenhouse gas emissions,” said Steve Casey, member services, and marketing administrator of Holy Cross. “We’re proud of them for making a strong environmental choice.”
